The Data Streamer provides students with an easy way to move data into and out of the real world on Excel’s digital canvas. Using a sensor, a microcontroller, and Excel, the Data Streamer brings students closer to the worlds of data science and the Internet of Things (IoT).
How does it work
The Data Streamer is a bi-directional data transfer plug-in for Excel that transmits live data from a microcontroller to Excel and returns data from Excel to the microcontroller.
To get data from a sensor and insert it into an Excel workbook, connect the sensor to a microcontroller connected to a Windows 10 computer. Enable the Excel Data Streamer and open a workbook.
Follow these steps to start streaming data in Excel:
- Enable the Data Streamer plug-in
- Write code and connect a microcontroller to your computer
- Create a sensor or use one you already have
- Connect sensor and microcontroller
- Open a custom Excel workbook for the sensor
- Start streaming data in real-time
